  •  Workshops are offered May through October.

 Our  workshops, in addition to providing specific knowledge, often involve hands on activities. Whether you want to learn the ins and outs of preparing and preserving your own food, how to save money on your grocery bill by raising your own veggies, or how to build a unique tool shed – Country Ways workshops can put you on the right track.

 

Regular Workshop Tuition is $49 - $99.  Registration is from 8 - 8:45 and the workshops start at 9 and normally end at 4 P.M. Some hands on workshops may start earlier and/or go longer. Lunch is provided for all day long workshops.

Periodically we offer 1/2 day workshops. Tuition for these varies according to the nature of the workshop.

Also you can learn by participating in one of our homestead stays. See the "Get-A-Way" section of our web page.

Workshop Material Fees. Some workshops, such as craft workshops, will have a material fee in addition to the tuition. Material fees are subject to change due to the cost of materials and will be collected at the start of the workshop. If a material fee applies it will be so stated in the workshop description and an estimated fee will be listed.

 WORK SHOP DESCRIPTIONS

HANDS ON WORKSHOPS

TURNING A HOBBY INTO A BUSINESS  Want to turn your hobby into $$$? Take this workshop and learn: how to know if you have what it takes; how to know if your hobby can be a $$$ maker; steps involved in really making $$$ with a hobby; and more. In this work shop you will make a simple craft item then be shown how to turn it into a $$$ maker. Note: There is a $10. material fee in addition to the tuition for this workshop. 

GARDENING METHODS   Want to grow 2-3 times more in 60% less space without fertilizer? Like to grow fresh veggies all year long without the expense of a greenhouse? Using square foot gardening, and home food preservation techniques, a family of four can be fed most of the year from an average size back yard. NO back yard? No problem - even patio gardeners can increase their harvest with square foot gardening. Gardening methods delt with in this workshop will cover Sq. foot gardening, bed gardening, vertical gardening, double dug gardening, container gardening, and raised bed gardens. Participants - through observation, lecture, and actual doing - will be able to gain insight into the various ways one can be self-sufficent.

MAKING BREAD Throw away the bread machines and learn how to have real old fashion quality bread, rolls, etc. Come get your fingers in the dough. Don't want to spend time kneading? No problem. We include no knead techniques.

MAKING JAMS & JELLIES There is nothing better than fresh homemade bread with your own homemade jam or jelly. Bring a couple of small jelly jars and take home some real homemade jam and jelly you make in this workshop.

CANNING BEEF Until you've tried your own home canned beef you don't know what you've been missing. Todays lunch will feature home canned beef. Once you have learned how to cann your own beef in todays workshop. you will never waste your money on store bought canned beef again.

WAYS TO COMPOST  Compost is to gardening  like milk is to cereal. There are so many ways to compost even this workshop will not be able to cover all of them. However, we will involve you in many of the easier ways as you make several compost units. By the end of the day you will have gained vital knowhow and be able to decide which compost method you prefer. 

LIFE ENHANCEMENT WORKSHOPS          

 HOMESTEADING - THE WAY OUT OF THE RAT RACE   Ever dream of being more self -sufficent? Producing your own food? Being your own boss? Homesteading can make all of these dreams possible. In this workshop, taught by real homesteaders, you will learn: How to decide between city, small town, or country homesteading (believe it or not one can homestead in a city or town); How to acquire your own homestead; About income production or supplementation; Home grown & other food sources; Ins and outs of animal raising, Basic tool & equipment needs; and more.

HOW TO HAVE A SIMPLER LIFE & ENJOY IT MORE  In today's high speed - constant stress society, few are truly satisfied with who they are or how their life is going. Wouldn't it be nice to find a way to eliminate the treadmill or at least slow it down to a pleasant walk? In this workshop you will be provided with keys to having a simpler life with real meaning and satisfaction regardless of where you choose to live and whether you prefer to continue working on a job or go a different route. Such things as how to declutter both your surroundings and your mind, How to determine what really matters, How to better handle your money so you are freer to do the things you like, are only a few of the topics covered in this workshop.
